“When you incarcerate a woman, you’re incarcerating the entire family.”

In this installment of “In Their Own Words”, we sit down with Topeka K. Sam, founder and executive director of The Ladies of Hope Ministries. The organization helps women and girls returning from prison transition back into society through access to education, entrepreneurship, spiritual empowerment, and housing. She is also the co-founder of Hope House NYC – a safe housing space for women and girls.

This video was directed and edited by Kareem Alston, filmed by Kenny Polyak and Juna Drougas, and produced by the New York Foundation.
