Communities United for Police Reform spokesman Lumumba Bandele claims the de Blasio administration has “taken the city backwards on police transparency.” Bandele believes that this lack of accountability puts more vulnerable New Yorkers in danger of “chokeholds and brutality.” This comes as Police Commissioner James P. O’Neill recently overturned a guilty verdict against an NYPD officer misconduct trial. It is alleged that this cop was charged with using a chokehold that has been banned and previously led to the death of Eric Garner, July 17, 2014.
