Community Food Advocates organized a campaign in support of universal free lunch for NYC public schools. As of Wednesday, September 6, 1.1 million students will see this come to fruition. This move has been long sought by food-policy advocates and many members of the New York City Council, who said that some students would prefer to go hungry rather than admit they cannot afford to pay for lunch. By offering free lunch to all public school students, New York joins other major cities including Boston, Chicago, Detroit and Dallas.
