TODAY: Stand for Tenant Safety Town Hall Event on Construction as Harassment

When: January 31, 2017, 6-8 PM

Where: Brooklyn Borough Hall, 209 Joralemon Street

More and more tenants are facing a new trend of harassment; construction as harassment. This is when landlords use the aggressive, disruptive or unsafe renovation of vacant apartments to harass tenants still in occupancy. In Brooklyn, this has become a standard tactic for displacing rent stabilized tenants in particular. The Stand for Tenant Safety coalition is a city-wide alliance of organizations that are fighting to stop this through a reform of the NYC Department of Buildings protocols and legislative changes from the City Council. The full STS legislative platform can be seen here:

In this town hall event tenants will share their horror stories around construction as harassment and call upon the NY City Council to enact these legislative changes. Come testify and tell your story about unsafe or harassing construction; we also need community members in the audience to lend support to those speaking up!
